Spartans rally after halftime to beat Vikings
Janesville Parker knocked on the door of its second Big Eight Conference victory once again Friday night.
The Vikings held a two-point lead on the road against Madison Memorial.
But Jason Ceniti’s 21-yard touchdown pass to Cade Ellingson in the third quarter was enough to lift the Spartans to a 17-12 victory.
Parker fell to 1-7 heading into next week’s Homecoming game against Madison West. Memorial improved to 3-5.
Ceniti’s one-yard touchdown run gave the Spartans the lead in the first quarter, but Parker cut the deficit to a point when senior cornerback Jadyn Ellis intercepted a pass and ran it back 60 yards for a touchdown.
Parker took the lead in the second quarter on Seamus Murphy’s 2-yard run. Murphy ran 21 times for 54 of Parker’s 103 rushing yards. The Vikings passed for just one yard.
A field goal by Memorial left the Vikings up 12-10 at halftime.
Ellingson’s touchdown catch was the lone second-half score and proved to be the difference.
Drew Palmer led the way for Memorial, rushing 20 times for 115 yards.
