ELKHORN—The Walworth County Sheriff's Office is coordinating a Prescription Drug Take Back day Saturday, Oct. 28, according to a news release.

Three  take-back locations are listed in the release:

-- The Walworth County Sheriff's Office, 1770 County NN, Elkhorn.

-- The sheriff's substation in the Darien Town Hall, N2826 Foundry Road, Darien.

-- The sheriff's substation in the Lyons Town Hall, 6339 Hospital Road, Lyons.

The Elkhorn location has the take-back location available 24/7. The two substation locations will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 28, the release states.

“Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain,” the release states. “Water reclamation facilities are not designed to remove all of them, and trace amounts of pharmaceuticals are showing up in rivers and lakes around the world.”

No businesses are allowed to drop off prescriptions, according to the release. The program is for households only.

Those interested should bring only prescription and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and pet medications, according to the release. Liquids are welcome, however only with the original packaging.

Illegal drugs, needles, inhalers and biohazardous materials will not be accepted, the release states.
