Today I heard, “Now is not the time to talk about gun control. The grief is too fresh.” If not now, when?

The University of Texas massacre happened 51 years ago—is it time yet? Columbine 18 years ago—is it time yet? Sandy Hook five years ago—is it time yet? Orlando nightclub one year ago—is it time yet? Nashville church five days ago—is it time yet?

In spite of what people say, guns DO kill people. None of the above killings involved headlines that started with “Man with ax...” or “Person armed with kitchen knife...”. Most gun owners will never harm anyone. But since we cannot know who will use a gun for evil and who won’t, we cannot take the chance.

The potential for a person causing catastrophic damage is a risk we can no longer accept.
