October 4, 1949 - September 26, 2017

Thomas F. Tierney, age 67, of Janesville, WI, answered the bell one last time on Tuesday, September 26th, 2017 with his daughter by his side. Tom succumbed to complications due to a heart surgery at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Tom was born on October 4th, 1949 in Dubuque, IA, to Joseph and Dorothy (Lindsay) Tierney. He grew up in Platteville, WI, where he had a love for his many dogs, causing mischief, and his mother’s cooking. After graduating from Platteville High School in 1967, Tom moved to Janesville. Tom attended UW-Rock County while being employed at General Motors. In 1985, Tom married Diane (Schultz) Pastula. Tom’s life forever changed for the better when the couple welcomed their only child and his pride and joy, Lindsey Tierney, in August of 1985. Tom continued to work at the GM Janesville Plant, and, with his strong work ethic, he worked his way up from a fork lift driver to a Superintendent of the Paint Dept. After 38 years, Tom retired from GM in 2006, to take time for the things he loved most in life. While Tom enjoyed fast cars, motorcycles, traveling, poker, a cold beer, and watching the stock market, nothing could compare to making memories with his family and four-legged best friend, Fergie. Tom and his daughter made so many memories surrounding Wisconsin Badger Football and their proud Irish heritage. Tom loved the game of golf, but not as much as he did teaching and playing golf with his other pride and joy, his granddaughter, Elliana Ostertag. Tom always had a smile on his face and a sparkle in his eye. He will be remembered for his quick wit, good jokes and dry sense of humor. Tom would never admit it, but he had a kind, sensitive soul with a heart of gold.

The ones that are survived by Tom and will miss and remember him the most are his daughter, Lindsey (Zach) Tierney; granddaughter, Elliana Ostertag; and her dad, Josh. Even though Tom and Diane had been divorced for over 20 years, they had a special relationship that Lindsey and others will forever admire. Diane’s husband, Dean Pastula, and her brother, Duane Schultz were among Tom’s closest friends. Tom’s sister, Liz Stone of Chandler, AZ, will endlessly miss the long late-night talks with her little brother. Tom will also be remembered by his sister-in law, Donna Tierney of Platteville; many nieces and nephews along, with their families; special friends; close neighbors; and the GM family. Waiting in heaven for Tom were his parents; two brothers, Joseph Jr. and Patrick Tierney; sister, Anne Affeldt and her husband Otto; brother-in law Jim Stone; and his infant brother, Michael Tierney.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 7th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and a short service to follow at the Albrecht Funeral Homes and Cremation Services in Milton, WI. In honor of Tom’s love for the Badgers, the family requests to wear WI Badger apparel or red, white and black. Following the service, everyone is invited to come celebrate Tom’s life and watch the Badger football game at Lucy’s Hideaway in Milton, WI. Badgers kick off at 7 p.m.!

From the bottom of her broken heart, Lindsey would like to thank all those who were there for her Dad on his last days. She is forever grateful to everyone that sent encouraging words and prayers, her cousin Cindy, Mercy doctors and surgeons, and most importantly the Mercy ICU nurses who were there to witness the power of love, showed compassion and care, and helped her hero fight his last courageous battle.
