Lorretta M. Hanel, age 82, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Our House Senior Living. She was born in North Dakota on July 27, 1935, the daughter of Jacob and Leakatria (Froehlich) Messer. Lorretta married David Hanel in Hebron, ND on June 22, 1959, and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2014. She received her BA in Education from UW-Whitewater, and taught school at St. Vincent and St. Patrick’s schools in North Dakota. She also taught at St. John Vianney Catholic School, Janesville and retired in 1996. Lorretta also worked at Boston Store after her retirement.

She is survived by her son, David (Geraldine) Hanel of South Carolina; daughter, Ursula Mazzarelli of Georgia; five grandchildren: Sofia, Joseph, Gabriella, Cody and David; great-grandson, Leo; and five siblings: James, Marvin, Kathy, Georgeann and Salome. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rendell; and brother, Ted.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH with The Very Rev. Paul Arinze officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park at a later date.
