Evansville man faces charge of fourth-offense OWI

EVANSVILLE -- An Evansville man faces a charge of fourth-offense intoxicated driving after Evansville police stopped him early Thursday.

The officer reported seeing Joel D. Schmelzer, 46, of 105 Countryside Drive, swerve twice into the oncoming lane of westbound Countryside Drive before the stop, according to a criminal complaint filed in Rock County Court.

Schmelzer registered a 0.15 on a preliminary breath test, the complaint states.

His previous intoxicated driving convictions were in 1993, 2000 and 2012, the complaint states.
