Velma June Burke, 74, of Janesville, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at Mayo Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. She was born July 3, 1943 in Richland County to the late Leland and Arlie (Bruckner) Dieter. Velma married Michael Burke on May 11, 1963, and together they raised their children, Todd, Troy and Tami in Janesville. Her family was always her primary focus in life. Velma was a very kind, compassionate and loving woman who always had a smile for everyone. In her spare time, she invested in giving back by helping others and volunteering. She was a great cook, and a well-known cookie expert who took time to make you feel special by making your favorite cookie. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family, was an avid bridge player and a U.S. Senior Olympics Ping Pong competitor, recognized for her skills with a gold medal. A joy to be around, Velma and her wonderful laugh will be missed by all.

Velma is survived by her husband of 54 years, Michael Burke; her sons, Todd (Lisa) Burke of Naperville IL, and Troy Burke of New Berlin; her daughter, Tami (Jason Grimm) Burke of Janesville; two grandchildren, Harrison and Isabella Burke; and a sister, Irma (Arvin) Brown of Richland Center. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Arlie Dieter; brother, Paul Dieter; and a nephew, Lee Brown

A memorial celebration honoring and remembering Velma will be held for friends and family on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Whitcomb-Lynch Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Velma’s name to the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD Foundation).
