Rita E. Leyes, Milton, WI

Rita E. Leyes, age 64, of Milton, passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, after battling ovarian cancer for five years with bravery and grace. Rita was born June 26, 1953, in Sheboygan, WI, the daughter of Arno C. and Evelyn S. (Paul) Erbstoeszer. She graduated from Sheboygan South High School in 1971 and received a BA in Social Work with honors from UW-Madison in 1975. Rita worked 37½ years at Rock County Human Services, with the majority of her career as coordinator of the Adult Family Home Program. In that position, she matched disabled and elderly individuals with Adult Foster Homes in Rock county communities.
Rita was united in marriage to Randy Leyes on October 10, 1977, in Lancaster, WI. They were to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this year. She was a member of the Janesville Home and Garden Club, and loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Rita also volunteered in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Lunch Buddy program, was a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed working as an election poll worker. Her hobbies included fishing, bird watching, family vacations to Marco Island, FL, reading, sewing, writing and walking. She very much enjoyed her membership at Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church and served on the Fellowship Committee. Rita always put family above all else. She had a special spot in her heart for grandson, Nicholas, and loved spending time with him. Everyone who knew Rita will remember her beautiful smile, caring manner and kind heart.
Rita is survived by her husband, Randy of Janesville; beloved daughter, Amanda (Tom) Pellizzi and their son, Nicholas, of Janesville; sister, Carol (John) Fruth of Beloit; brother-in-law, Rick Leyes of Janesville; sisters-in-law, Wendy (John) Corcoran of Shiloh, NC, and Lori (Rod) Jones of Berthoud, CO; nieces and nephews: Terra (Steve) Anderson of Roscoe, IL, Jason (Kate) Fruth of Pewaukee, WI, Ryan Jones of Ft. Collins, CO, and Allison (Kevin) Brown of Fort Collins, CO.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017, at ROCK PRAIRIE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 8605 E County A, Janesville, with Pastor Jamie Swanson officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY and again on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Barroilhet and her team from UW-Carbone Cancer Center in Madison and Dr. James Maloney and his Cardiac/Thoracic Team for their dedication and care, which allowed Rita to have the best quality of life possible during her journey with ovarian cancer.
Rita would also like to thank all of her extended family and friends, neighbors in The Vineyard, her Rock Prairie Church family and Agrace Hospice for the wonderful support, concern and care she and her family received.
