Paul E. Schulz, Janesville, WI

Paul E. Schulz, age 94, a longtime resident of Janesville, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Cedar Crest Health Center. Born November 21, 1922 in Sheboygan, WI, he was the oldest of three sons born to the late Rev. Karl & Hilda (Nitsche) Schulz. After graduating from Sheboygan Central High School, Paul attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and graduated in 1945 with a major in Agronomy. On June 8, 1946 he married the former Marion R. Hacker at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. Marion preceded him in death on January 4, 2014. Paul began his career working for GLF in Buffalo, NY. He moved back to Wisconsin and took a position with Libby, McNeil, and Libby/Nestle in 1948, at which time Paul and Marion moved to Janesville. He worked for Libby, McNeil and Libby/Nestle in their Agricultural Research Department for 34 years until his retirement in 1980. Throughout his career he held memberships in the National Pea Improvement Association, Sweet Corn Breeders Association, and contributed to to the Agronomy and Horticultural Science Journals. Following his retirement, Paul worked as a consultant for the food processing industry. A member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in Janesville since 1948, Paul served the church in many ways. His services included periods as the Chairman of the Congregation and as a member of the Board of Elders. Paul also sang in the Senior Choir. He was an active member of the Janesville Blackhawk Golden “K” Kiwanis Club.
Paul was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his three sons: Rev. Michael P. (Kathleen) Schulz, of Janesville, and their children; Jonathan (Ingrid) Schulz, of Grafton, WI, and Elizabeth (Joseph) Davies, of Downers Grove, IL; Paul J. “Skip” (Mary) Schulz, of Janesville, and their children: Kristen (Rob) Russell, of Oconomowoc, WI, Kari (Jonah) Klebba, of Janesville, and Thomas (Amy) Schulz, of Pewaukee, WI; and Peter (Candace) Schulz, of Janesville, and their children: Emily (Tyler) Weinert, of Edgerton, WI, Rebecca (Garrett) Alabado, of Tampa, FL, and Hannah Schulz, of Viroqua, WI; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Andrew Schulz, Maren Davies, Joseph, Jacob, and Elena Russell, Ronan Klebba, Aaron Schulz, Gracie, Aidan, and Addison Schoen, Gemma and Isaiah Alabado; step-grandchildren, Alek and Lucas Weinert,; and his two brothers, Karl (Mary) Schulz, of Port Washington, WI, and Richard Schulz, of Sheboygan, WI. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Marilyn Schulz.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES. Burial will take place Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Cemetery, Sheboygan, WI. Visitation will take place from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
