Your Views: Gazette’s coverage of violence was skewed
I agree with Sara Hilliger (Tuesday, Your Views) that the coverage of the Charlottesville, Va., tragedy was skewed in subtle ways. Sunday’s front-page picture shows the black counter-protester as the aggressor. It’s dramatic but does not portray the negative behaviors by the “white nationalists.” In addition, the headline on Page 11A says, “Observer: Both sides were hoping for confrontation.” This statement was a quote from a single bystander and was not verified as accurate by other observers or participants. I trust that Janesville residents will join the local efforts toward understanding and justice as a response to this incident.
