Joseph M. “Red Chip” Richardt, age 81, of Beloit, formerly of Janesville, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care in Janesville. He was born September 21, 1935 in Madison, WI, the son of the late August G. and Mary (Kneeland) Richardt. He attended school in Madison. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for over 6 years until his discharge. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Staff Sergeant after more than 33 years of active duty for his country. Joe was married to the former Darlene A. Hutter on May 15, 1973 in Madison. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2008. Joe was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, and also the Marine Corps League. He loved singing karaoke, and will be remembered for his love of country and western music! He enjoyed watching war movies, but his greatest love was of the old western movies featuring Gene Autry and Roy Rogers among others. Joe loved his soap operas, especially One Life to Live and General Hospital. He always had a great love for classic cars, trains, and airplanes. He also loved anything “cowboy”!

He is survived by his daughter, Kelley R. Richardt, of Clifton Springs, NY; his brother, James (Gwen) Richardt, of Beloit, WI; his sister, Louise Schulenberg, of Madison, WI; his two granddaughters, Carrie (Curtis) Conklin, of Dundee, NY, and Kailee McCormick, of Penn Yan, NY; his great-grandson, Jackson Conklin, also of Dundee, NY; and by nieces; nephews; and friends. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Duane Hutter; and by his sister, Rosemary.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, with Rev. Kevin Butler officiating. Military rites by the V.F.W. Kienow-Hilt Post 1621 will immediately follow the services. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Private entombment will take place in the Sun Prairie Memory Garden, Sun Prairie, WI, on Monday. Please remit any cards to the Whitcomb-Lynch Funeral Home on the family’s behalf.
