Sophia Dooman continued her strong start to the fall, helping the Janesville Parker Vikings to a 1-1 record during Monday's Big Eight Conference double-dual meet at Riverside Golf Course.

Parker picked up a win against Madison East, which did not field a complete lineup, but lost by nine strokes, 357 to 368, to Madison West.

It was the second straight sub-370 team score for the Vikings, who opened the season by scoring 402 on Aug. 10.

"I'm happy because we cut off quite a few strokes," Parker coach Mary Ross said. "We're staying in the ball park. This, to me, is more consistent play."

Dooman, a junior, fired an 8-over-par 79 to lead the Vikings. She beat West's Lillian Knetter by a stroke for the top individual honor and has an 18-hole average of 79 through three meets.

"Sophia, obviously, has come out of the gate strong," Ross said.

Parker's Ashlyn Burdick birdied No. 13 and set a personal-best with an 18-hole score of 84, despite a slow start that included a 45 on the front nine. Bria McDade shot 102 and Lauren Reid shot 103.

"Ashlyn started out a little slow, but came around with a 39, which is her low nine-hole score. She only played varsity a bit last year, so that was great," Ross said.

Parker is back in action tomorrow at the Elkhorn Invite, scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Evergreen Golf Course.

Craig falls twice to open conference play--Kallie Lux carded an 84, securing medalist honors, as Janesville Craig dropped a pair of Big Eight Conference duals at Sun Prairie Country Club on Monday.

The Cougars totaled 398 strokes as a team. Lauren and Courtney Shorter notched 86s to boost Verona (365) to the sweep. Sun Prairie (385) was second.

Craig will join Parker at the Elkhorn Invite tomorrow.
