Playstar expansion work underway on Janesville's south side
What it is: A 58,000-square-foot facility being built along Beloit Avenue at Reuther Way on Janesville's south side.
The building will be a distribution facility for Playstar, a playground equipment supplier. The company has a 15,000-square-foot office to the south of the new site at 2104 Beloit Ave.
The location used to be the site of a gas station and grocery store/restaurant, said Tom Clippert, Janesville building and development services manager.
The Janesville City Council agreed to a tax increment financing deal for the company. The deal gives Playstar $410,000 toward construction and the creation of 10 jobs over the next three years.
The council also rezoned the area to make way for the new development.
What's the progress: Crews broke ground on or the day after July 6, when the permit was issued, Clippert said.
The foundation has been poured, and underground utilities are being worked on, he said.
The awning that used to cover the gas station pumps will be razed, but the building on the property will remain and become part of the new facility, Clippert said.
Cost: $2.5 million
Completion date: Playstar President Brian Zeilinger has said he wants the facility operating by Oct. 1.
