CLINTON—A residential structure fire Sunday morning in Clinton has blocked all lanes in both directions of Highway 140, according to a state Department of Transportation news release.

An off-duty firefighter reported the fire at 8:21 a.m. at 314 Church St., Clinton, Rock County Communications Center shift supervisor Derek Ninmer said.

Highway 140 is called Church Street as it passes through Clinton.

The Clinton Fire Department responded to the incident and requested mutual aid from the following fire departments: Turtle, Darien, Sharon, town of Beloit, Walworth, town of Delavan, city of Beloit, Whitewater, Milton, Harlem-Roscoe, North Park, Capron, Boone County, Rockton and MD-1 from Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Ninmer said.

The house, which belongs to the nearby First Presbyterian Church, was unoccupied at the time. It experienced serious damage but a financial damage has not been determined, Clinton Police Chief Dave Hooker wrote in a press release.

The Clinton Fire District, Clinton Police Department and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the cause of the fire, Hooker wrote in the release.

An updated Department of Transportation news release said traffic was moving normally again at 5:47 p.m.
