Evansville - Borghild Marie Viney, nee Haakenson, 97, died Thursday Aug. 10, 2017, at Milton, WI. She was born July 22, 1920, in Porter Township, Rock County Wisconsin to parents John and Karen (Hatlen) Haakenson. She married Lyle Viney Nov. 21, 1940, at the Cooksville Lutheran Church. Together they built a successful family farm business. Borg built her life around three areas - her family, her church and her community. She was a regular cheerleader at her grandchildren’s numerous baseball, softball, swimming, and football games for decades. She valued and honored her Norwegian heritage teaching many willing interns the fine art of making lutefisk and lefse as well as telling Ole and Lena jokes. As a current member of Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton she helped to make hundreds of quilts for missions in recent years. At Cooksville Lutheran Church, Borg served on the church council, ELCA Women and Altar Guild. Some interests that kept her busy were knitting, gardening, card clubs, traveling and doing volunteer work. Borg was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. She also made many visits to friends and family that were ill or alone. Mittens were knitted for Ronald McDonald House and Coats for Kids. Over 50 afghans and quilts were made for the Linus Project. She was a former 4-H leader for Porter 4-H and was a past president of the Edgerton Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by children: David (Mary) Viney, Evansville, Jane (David) Grabarski, Grand Marsh, Mary Viney (Marilyn Kirk), Austin, TX, and James (Linda) Viney, Janesville; grandchildren: Brian(Jen) Grabarski, Waunakee, Steven Grabarski, Holmen, Nicholas Viney (Jenny Kleinert), Evansville, Stephanie (Brock) Gassen, Evansville, Jennifer (Aaron) Schneeberger, Janesville, Daniel (Toni Lee) Viney, Fort Collins, CO; great-grandchildren: Brycen, Kylee and Sadie Grabarski, Raven and Tyrus Schneeberger, Josie and Cecily Viney and, Charlotte Gassen. Of her family, Borg has said “All the children are above average: the men are good-looking and the women are strong.” In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice or Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care of Dr. Kenneth Betts over her years. Thank you to Pastors Jim Johnson and Jerry Pribbenow for their visits and conversations.
