Milton junior Taylor Hakala tied for medalist honors with a 1-under-par 71, and teammate Mia Seeman shot 72 as the Red Hawks paced a talented field at the Edgewood Invitational on Friday.

Hakala lost in a three-hole playoff to Homestead's Speedy Kent.

Hakala recorded three birdies at Madison’s Yahara Hills Golf Course to tie Kent for 18 holes..

Milton shot 319 as a team, beating second place Brookfield Central by four strokes for the team title.

Janesville Parker’s Sophia Dooman shot 77, and the Vikings finished 13th in the 20-team field, which included five teams ranked in the top 10 in the state according to a preseason coaches poll.

Parker coach Mary Ross is developing a young squad that only has seven players, after losing four seniors from last year’s squad.

Dooman, a junior, shot a personal best score, which included a birdie on No. 11. Ashlyn Burdick, who saw limited varsity action last year, also shot a personal best with an 88.

Ross said she saw improvement from the team’s showing in the season-opening meet Thursday.

“What I like is we concentrated on steady play, staying in the moment, concentrating and staying level,” Ross said. “They all did that. As a young team, shooting 365 is very respectable, and we still have plenty of room for improvement.”

Parker opens Big Eight play with a double dual match against Madison West and Madison East on Monday morning.
