Edgerton man, Fort Atkinson teen killed in Jefferson ultralight plane crash

TOWN OF JEFFERSON -- Registered sport pilot David Plambeck, 51, Edgerton and Max Burlingame, 16, Fort Atkinson, were killed Tuesday night when the Pegasus Quantum ultralight plane Plambeck was piloting crashed into the Rock River in the town of Jefferson, according to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened on County K halfway between Fort Atkinson and Jefferson just south of Lou's Riverview bar, said Chief Deputy Jeffrey Parker.

Deputies responded to the crash at 8:05 p.m., according to the news release.

The cause of the crash is unknown and under investigation by the sheriff's office, according to the news release.

Emergency personnel found the aircraft almost completely submerged, according to the news release. Nearby recreational boaters helped retrieve the bodies from the plane.

Jefferson Fire Department, Jefferson EMS, Flight for Life, Fort Atkinson Paramedics, Fort Police Department, Jefferson County Emergency Communications, the Department of Natural Resources and Federal Aviation Administration responded to the crash.

The state Department of Natural Resources, Federal Aviation Administration and Jefferson County Dive Team continued to investigate Wednesday.
