Zimmerman captures junior city golf title
Steady golf led Matt Zimmerman to a city junior golf championship Monday and Tuesday.
Zimmerman, who is entering his senior year at Janesville Parker, followed up a 1-under-par round of 71 at Riverside Golf Course on Monday with a 72 on Tuesday to win the boys title in the Janesville Optimist Club Junior City Championship.
Daniel Thomson shot 151 to win the boys 15-16 age division and finished second among all boys. Grady Skoglund shot 189 to win the 13-14 boys age group.
Zimmerman posted 26 pars out of 36 holes and had only one double-bogey in the tournament. Further showing his consistency, he shot even-par 36 on three of his four nine-hole stretches.
At Blackhawk, Caleb Kern had a bit of a birdie bonanza to win the boys competition between competitors ages 9-12. Kern birdied Nos. 4-6 to shoot 2-over 35 on Tuesday and finished at 4-over 70 over the two days, winning the 9-10 boys division.
Deegan Riley won the 11-12 boys division, shooting a two-day total of 86.
Hannah Dunk captured the girls title, shooting 93 over two days.
