Two rescued from Lake Koshkonong after flipping watercraft

TOWN OF MILTON – Rock County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to Lake Koshkonong for a water rescue Thursday night after a man said he flipped his personal watercraft on the lake, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The Rock County Communications Center received a call at 9:09 p.m. from the operator of a personal watercraft, who said he had flipped his watercraft about 1 miles northwest of Dallman's Landing on Charley Bluff Road.

The caller reported he was in the water hanging onto the watercraft, but he could not find his passenger, according to the news release.

Sheriff's deputies along with fire and EMS personnel from Milton, Edgerton, Janesville and Fort Atkinson responded to search for the two subjects.

The caller, Thomas Johnson, 46, of Milton, was found at 9:40 p.m. with the watercraft. The missing passenger, Codi Young, 28, of Eau Claire, was found at 9:57 p.m. Neither was injured, and both were wearing life jackets, according to the news release.

Both subjects were under the influence of alcohol, but Johnson was found to be under the legal limit to operate a boat, the release stated.

Johnson was cited for reckless operation of a personal watercraft and operating a personal watercraft after sunset, according to the release.

Young was taken to the Rock County Jail on suspicion of probation violation, according to the news release.
