Your Views: A gas tax to fix roads is perfectly reasonable

I don’t understand the big deal about the gasoline/diesel tax to fix the roads. I can easily go along with increasing the gas tax by 10 cents per gallon. Maybe even more when fuel is this low.

What I don’t go along with is the tax going into a general fund and spent on other things. If fuel prices rise, then maybe roll back the tax accordingly. One thing I do not like is $4 per gallon fuel. Use the gas tax to fix the roads and not the deficit or fancy perks for politicians. What does our state government not understand?

On the Interstate, I would like to see a toll and don’t tell me it will hurt tourism as the people from Illinois are used to tolls.
