Your Views: Access to health care should be a right
I feel compelled to write this letter to our legislators regarding the health care issues in this country.
I believe everyone, regardless of age, financial capabilities or medical condition should be afforded proper health care. In other words, proper health care should be considered a right for everyone. It should not matter if a person was born with certain medical conditions or born with the means to pay or not pay for their health care. Rich or poor, human dignity for all demands access to proper health care. If people don’t have access to health care, how can they be expected to better themselves or their families?
We were all given gifts and talents the day we were born, and I believe we should be prepared and willing to share these gifts to help all people to live as healthy a life as possible. In the Bible, Luke 16:24-25 says, “And he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me.’ Abraham replied, ‘My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented.’” At some point during our lives, we will be asked to decide what is most important to us.
Is accumulating as much wealth as possible or is sharing our gifts to help others to live a dignified life most important?
I urge our legislators to consider the good of all people, not just the wants of a few.
