WHITEWATER—A community forum is scheduled for Monday, May 22, to discuss plans to potentially build a new library in Whitewater, according to a news release.

The forum will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library, 431 W. Center St.

Stacey Lunsford, library director, said in an email that the forum will address the library board's process in planning the building project and the role of a 21st-century library. It then will open up for questions from the public.

Whitewater city and library officials have had discussions with a Minnesota-based developer, Troy Hoekstra, about building a hotel with a library attached. Hoekstra has a similar project in Platteville, and it costs about $13 million.

Lunsford said officials also will explain mixed-use developments at the forum.
