Jets' bid ends short against Brahmas

DULUTH, MINNESOTA--The Janesville Jets’ bid for the franchise’s first NAHL Robertson Cup Championship came up short.

Pete Kessel scored two goals and added an assist Friday night to lead the Lone Star Brahmas to a 3-1 win over Janesville and a two-game sweep in the best-of-three Robertson Cup Championship semifinal series.

Lone Star advances to Sunday’s championship game against the winner of the Aston vs. Aberdeen semifinal series which is tied at 1-1.

After a scoreless first two periods Friday, Lone Star got on the board first on Kessel’s first goal at 2:44. Janesville answered just over a minute later on Kip Hoffmann’s even-strength goal.

Drake Glover got the game-winning goal at 18:27 and Kessel added an empty-net goal at 19:22 for the final margin.

Jacob Barczewski took the loss, stopping 28 of 31 shots.

Janesville won the Midwest Division title during the regular season and advanced to the Robertson Cup Championship semifinals for the second time in franchise history.
