Victims in fatal traffic crash Wednesday still hospitalized

JANESVILLE—The driver of Wednesday’s fatal traffic crash was listed in critical condition Thursday morning at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Leon Bridges, 27, Brooklyn, was taken to the Janesville hospital for treatment after the vehicle he was driving rolled over at 2:30 p.m. on West Court Street, just east of Austin Road, according to Janesville police.

His front-seat passenger Mike Asmus, 60, Janesville, also was taken to Mercy hospital in Janesville and later transferred to Mercyhealth Rockton Avenue Campus hospital, Rockford, Illinois, where he was listed in fair condition Thursday, said a hospital spokesperson.

Three people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two were ejected while one died at the scene, according to police.

The name of the deceased has not been released.

A segment of Highway 11 was closed for around four hours while emergency crews worked at the scene of the crash that remains under investigation. Officers continue to gather digital measurements and witness statements.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, police said.
