Kenneth “Kenny” Jergen Haakenson, 93, of Evansville, WI, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at his son and daughter-in-law’s home in Indianapolis, IN. In his early years, Mr. Haakenson worked on his family farm. After graduating from Evansville Senior High School in 1941, he attended Milton College for a brief period. Later he met his wife, Norma Jean Smithback, at the Cliff Lodge Dance Hall, and they were married on April 14, 1956. Partnered with his brother, Edwin Haakenson, Kenny bought the family farm and they worked a dairy operation milking forty Holstein cows. They also grew corn, alfalfa, oats, and tobacco. Mr. Haakenson was an active member of the Cooksville Lutheran Church, singing in the choir and performing in the Cooksville Theater group. In the early 70’s, he performed in the musicals, Oklahoma and Show Boat. He had a passion for animals, playing cards, bowling, and enjoying time with friends and family. He also enjoyed working in his shop repairing machinery and building.

He leaves his son, James Haakenson and his daughter-in-law, Barbara Haakenson; and his two grandchildren: Brandon and Katrina Haakenson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma J. Haakenson; parents, Hans and Bertha (Larsen) Haakenson; brothers: Olaf Haakenson, George Haakenson, Henry Haakenson, Hans Haakenson, Edwin Haakenson; and sister, Thelma Haakenson.

Memorial services for Kenneth Haakenson will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Cooksville Lutheran Church on 11927 W Church St, Evansville, with Pastor Karla Brekke and Pastor Rod Nordby officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Cooksville Lutheran Church.
