Xtra Points: Baseball, softball ramping up
The high school spring sports season has started, and it would be in full swing if Mother Nature would cooperate a little better.
Still, Tuesday night might have been the official season opener as the Parker and Craig baseball teams each hosted a game at Riverside, with the doubleheader lasting until nearly midnight and spanning 21 innings.
If that's a sign of things to come, it should be a fun baseball season. Janesville Craig, Beloit Turner, Whitewater and Jefferson are all in the top 10 in their divisions in the initial state rankings. Craig and Turner opened the season ranked No. 1.
And in softball, we've already seen some really good games, including Craig beating Turner, Craig losing a close battle to defending D1 state champ Stevens Point and Turner topping McFarland.
Gazette sports editor Eric Schmoldt and writer John Barry break it all down to get you ready for spring on the diamonds in this week's episode of Xtra Points.
