Hoffmann, Abate lead Jets to another road win
Two down, two to go.
The Janesville Jets won their second road game in three nights Thursday, with two more still to come this weekend.
Kip Hoffmann scored two goals and added an assist and future Wisconsin player Joseph Abate scored once and assisted twice to lead Janesville to a 5-3 North American Hockey League victory over Coulee Region.
The Jets, who have already clinched the Midwest Division title, scored twice in the first 3 minutes, 24 seconds to set the tone.
While they never fully relinquished the lead, they needed to hang on. Hoffman’s first goal, on the power play in the second period, gave Janesville a 4-2 lead, but the Chill scored on the advantage in the opening minutes of the third period to claw back within a goal.
The Jets held strong, and Hoffman scored an empty-netter in the final seconds to put the game away.
Derek Schaedig, a Harvard commit, returned between the pipes to start for the first time in 10 games for the Jets. He stopped 30 shots to earn the victory.
Janesville plays tonight and Saturday against the Minnesota Wilderness.
