Your Views: Appreciated story on community's history
I enjoyed the article, “A century since,” on March about the Great War, WWI, and the doughboy.
My father Marvin and his brother Carroll (Carl) Dudley also served, and their names are etched on the plaque.
In fact, their grandfather Mr. Williams donated to the city of Janesville the land on which the memorial stands.
At one time moving the doughboy to Traxler Park with other memorials was a consideration. Various reasons including sustainability of the land proved this was not a viable option.
Downtown Janesville in being revitalized. The little park on the Corn Exchange Park may be a perfect spot to rest and reflect on the history of our community.
