Janesville man accused in 2000 rape stands mute to charges
JANESVILLE—A Janesville man accused in a 2000 sexual assault stood mute to charges Friday in Rock County Court.
Kelly L. Baxter, 53, of 106 Cherry St. faces charges of second-degree sexual assault by use of force and burglary.
Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer entered pleas of not guilty on Baxter's behalf.
Baxter is accused of raping of a 78-year-old woman at her Janesville home nearly 17 years ago. Police last month announced the state Crime Lab had found a match between DNA found at the scene and Baxter's.
Baxter is being held at the Rock County Jail on a $30,000 bond. His case is assigned to Judge James Daley.
