Vruwink proposes anti-gerrymandering bill
MADISON—State Rep. Don Vruwink, D-Milton, has co-authored a bill that would remove partisan redistricting from state legislative districts, according to a release.
Vruwink's proposal would give redistricting power to the Legislative Reference Bureau every 10 years. Republicans outnumber Democrats 64-35 in the state Assembly and 20-13 in the state Senate, which is not reflective of Wisconsin's population, Vruwink said in the release.
"When legislative districts are drawn to tilt unnaturally in favor of one party or the other, the favored party can become entrenched and voters don't have a true choice," Vruwink said in the release. "But legislative districts that are more evenly split will require candidates to shift closer to the center in their political philosophy."
