MILTON--The past two seasons have been tough for Milton High's boys basketball team.

The Red Hawks came into Friday night's Badger South Conference game against Oregon having won just two of their last 41 games.

Mark Bowditch helped ease the pain with a sparkling performance on Senior Night.

The junior scored 36 points to lead Milton to a 62-53 win over the Panthers.

Milton picked up its first conference win of the season in improving to 2-17 overall.

Bowditch had 12 points in the first half before erupting for 24 in the second. He made six 3-pointers in constantly shooting over the top of Oregon's zone defense.

“This was all about our seniors tonight,” Bowditch said. “I just wanted to do whatever I could to get them a win.

“Once my first shot went down, I was kind of feeling it, so I kept shooting and it worked out. But it's not about me, it's about our team and our seniors who have worked so hard.”

Milton led by one at half but went on a 10-2 run to start the second half. Oregon (9-10, 3-7) got no closer than three the rest of the way.

Leading by three, Bowditch hit back-back 3s to stretch the lead back to nine with 9:36 left. His three-point play with 7:15 left gave Milton its biggest lead at 50-37.

Milton coach Zach Groelle knew his team was due to break out at some point this season.

“I'm really happy with the way the guys battled on both ends of the court,” Groelle said. “And they really responded well to adversity tonight. Every time Oregon made a little run, our guys responded.

“Mark, like he's been doing a lot for us this season, really carried the scoring load. He's a kid that was always a very good scorer, but now he's proving to be a very good shooter, as well.”

Kyle Hanauska added nine points for Milton, which is now 1-9 in the Badger South.
