SLC hoops: Slow start haunts Delavan-Darien boys

Delavan-Darien’s boys basketball team dug itself too big a hole Friday night.

The Comets scored just 17 points in the first half on the way to losing 63-49 to visiting Westosha Central in a Southern Lakes Conference game.

Delavan-Darien was 2-for-11 from beyond the arc and 3-for-10 from the free-throw line in the opening half.

“We just kind of dug ourselves a hole,” Comets coach Chris Hembrook said. “We got back within five in the second half, but they’re a good basketball team and withstood our comeback.”

Tre Williams led all scorers with 21 points for the first-place Falcons.

Brandon Edmonds had 15 for the Comets.

•  Elkhorn 66, Badger 34—Alex Easterday scored 20 points, and the host Elks silenced the Badgers.

Elkhorn held Badger to just 15 points in the first half and 19 in the second.

Ian Nowell added 10 points for the Elks.

Quinten Lottig had 15 for Badger.

•  Badger 69, Elkhorn 56—The visiting Badgers rallied from a two-point halftime deficit to win their Southern Lakes Conference girls game.

Alexis Todd paced Badger with 13 points.

Payton Christensen had 13 points for the Elks.

Kenna Timmerman went 12 of 14 from the free-throw line on the way to a game-high 24 points.
