November 24, 1929 - January 7, 2017

John “Jack” H. Heyer was born on Sunday, November 24, 1929 to Edwin Park and Betty Jane (Ibach) Heyer. He passed away early Saturday, January 7, 2017. He treasured the times with family and friends. The sixty years of marriage to his wife Shirley (Finn) was marked by years of fun and good humor between them and their children: Jack (Susan) Heyer, Betty (Michael) Grogan, Mary (Scott Korarik) Heyer, and Ed (Karen) Heyer and ten grandchildren.

Life is opportunities, and Jack took advantage of them. As a medic in the army, his love for medicine and the sciences was fostered. College broadened that love along with an appreciation of the arts, good friends and college antics. He brought the family hardware business into its fifth generation, forming strong ties with the community. As a member of the Walworth-Fontana Rotary Club, he strove to emulate its motto “Service Above Self”, a lesson he instilled in his children. He felt hunting and fishing is about nature and friends, not the sport; and scotch and practical jokes are all about good taste.

Jack’s soul may be in heaven, but his heart will remain in the north woods with family and friends.

The Heyer would like to thank all of John’s friends throughout the years and the entire community; however because of the timing, family situations and weather, John’s services will be confined to immediate family members only.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Ingalls-Koeppen American Legion Post #102, or the Walworth–Fontana Rotary Club.
