Irene Alice (Welch) Hendrickson, 82, of Janesville died peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center. Irene was born in Janesville on February 22, 1934. She was the daughter of Veron and Eva (Polzin) Welch. Irene married the love of her life, Harold Kenneth Hendrickson, on June 7, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Irene and Harold co-owned Parkview Grocery in Milton, WI, retiring in 1992. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and visiting family. Irene was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milton, and was involved in the VFW Auxiliary and T.O.P.S.

Irene was the mother who every child dreams of. From Girl Scout Leader, to 4-H Leader, to hosting an AFS Student, she was the consummate loving parent to her children, Barbara, Donna, Linda and John. Over the past 24 years, she relished being grandmother to her 11 grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to connect with them, even learning to text so she could remain involved in their lives.

Irene is survived by her husband: Harold; her children: Barbara Hendrickson, Donna (Brian) Christensen, Linda (Kent) Syth, and John (Sue) Hendrickson; and her grandchildren: Emma, Matthew, Edward, Daniel, Nicholas, Julianna, Annika, Amanda, Eva and Clara. Irene is also survived by her sisters-in-laws, Charlene Welch and Helen VanKeuren; brother-in-law, John Casper; her Canadian cousins; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary; brother, Jim; son-in-law, Richard Hom; and her grandson, Leo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milton, with Msgr. James Uppena officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Whitcomb – Lynch Funeral Home, Janesville, with a VFW Auxiliary Service beginning at 5:45 p.m. On Friday morning, a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
