Your Views: Beloit election workers deserve high praise
In the rearview mirror of 2016 are four citywide elections and a presidential recount. I’m so pleased to celebrate the successful administration of these elections with the 200-plus residents, students and co-workers who have served this year in various capacities of election officials to make sure elections in the city of Beloit are open, fair, transparent and efficient.
The recent recount yielded a near perfect result. In fact, our ballot count was 100 percent accurate and all of our incident logs were so well done, the board of canvass and campaign representatives had zero challenges.
Election officials are the backbone of democracy and their dedicated service allows our democracy to flourish. The city is extremely fortunate to have residents committed to being trained and willing to work as election officials, especially in recent years where election laws are fluid and change rapidly.
I’d like to publicly recognize these election officials for their contributions and express sincere gratitude on behalf of the city of Beloit staff and residents for the outstanding service provided by all parties involved with the multiple elections in 2016 and the recent presidential recount.
I further congratulate Rock County Clerk Lisa Tollefson and her staff on a well-organized and accurate recount countywide.
