Nearly 700 participants turned out for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 17 at Library Park in Lake Geneva.

The event raised awareness and money to help the Alzheimer’s Association with research and provide care and support services to more than 2,200 local families.

The Wally Phillips Spirit Award was presented to Bernadette and Eric Russow of Elkhorn. The award honors an individual or group that exemplifies the spirit of generosity and service that is WGN Hall of Fame broadcaster Wally Phillips’ legacy.

Besides being involved in the Alzheimer’s walk, the Russows have helped develop a new memory café in Elkhorn and have made Elkhorn and Walworth County more dementia friendly.
