Canvass shows Spanton Nelson elected to Evansville School Board
EVANSVILLE—Sandra Spanton Nelson, an Evansville School Board member who planned on her term ending this month, is officially on the board for another year.
A canvass of the ballots cast in the April 5 election was completed Tuesday and shows Spanton Nelson garnered 306 of the 528 write-in votes, according to the Evansville School District canvass report.
Four seats were up for grabs in the election, but only three people were on the ballot.
Spanton Nelson could not be reached by deadline Tuesday. She previously told The Gazette she planned to serve the one-year term.
Spanton Nelson turned in her notice for non-candidacy in December because of health reasons. She has served the board for the last three years.
Amanda Koenecke and Kathi Swanson turned in their school board resignation papers in October for personal reasons. Those two seats were filled in December by Oberdorf and Derek Allen and were up for grabs in the April 5 election along with Spanton Nelson's seat.
