BELOIT—Beloit International Film Festival has announced 10 BIFFY awards for the best of the more than 100 films submitted to this year's festival.

The honors went to the following filmmakers and films:

-- BIFF's top Power of Film Award for quality of filmmaking and audience impact: “Among the Believers,” directed by Hemal Trivedi, which examines Jihadist teachings and a clash between warring religious factions in Pakistan.

-- People's Choice Award, Best Documentary Feature Award: “Right Footed,” which tells the story of a woman who was born without arms but learned to type, drive a car and fly an airplane—all with her feet.

-- Best Narrative Feature: “One Smart Fellow,” starring Melissa Gilbert and Tim Busfield, who also directed. The film chronicles a family weekend at the beach and unfolds around an event that will change the family's life forever.

-- Best Documentary Short: “The Hermit,” by director Lena Friedrich, which tells the story of Christopher Knight, a man who lived alone in the Maine woods for 27 years with no human contact and then became a celebrity overnight.

-- Best Narrative Shorts: “Fragile Storm,” by Dawn Fields, which chronicles a woman's gripping flight from the clutches of a terrifying man and her shocking realization of why she was trapped; and “Pony,” by Candice Carella, which examines the bond between a 5-year-old girl and her uncle, a 50-year-old rock musician.

-- Director of Programming Award: “Hell's Heart,” by director-producer-writer Ryan Denmark. A narrative feature that follows a man's struggle with demonic forces as he prepares to marry the daughter of a woman he saw murdered when he was a child.

-- Creative Excellence: “Field Niggas,” by Khalik Allah, which festival judges called “street opera,” and a “visceral and hauntingly beautiful documentary.”

-- General Excellence Award: Damien Patrik, for creative work and personal involvement in national film festivals. Patrik's short films have won awards at more than 160 film fests.

-- Executive Director Award: Resonate Web Marketing for design and marketing of the Beloit International Film Festival and Hollywood Film Festival.
