JANESVILLE—The Janesville Performing Arts Center's 10th season opens this weekend with a diverse artist lineup and a fresh approach to selling season tickets.

The new season kicks off Sunday with a 2 p.m. concert by the Texas Tenors, a three-man vocal ensemble that became the darling of NBC's “America's Got Talent.”

The trio is one of several national touring acts in the Live on Main Street series—but it's just part of JPAC's new season. The rest of the season is filled with plays, musicals and performances by JPAC's user groups.

In past years, people got discounts when they bought tickets for the entire Live on Main Street season. This year, discounts are available on purchases of four or more shows, including those by local groups.

Elizabeth Horvath, JPAC's executive director, said the new approach has been well received.

“Everyone supports us in different ways,” she said. “Attending a show is one way.”

If Linda Rufer could recommend one show in the 2014-15 season, it probably would be the Texas Tenors.

A volunteer at the Janesville Senior Center, Rufer took a bus trip to see the group in Dubuque, Iowa, last summer. The pitch-perfect performance got an enthusiastic standing ovation, she said.

“Recommend highly,” Rufer said. “Fabulous. What a show. And they're good on the eyes.”
