Boys soccer: Badger comes from behind to beat Craig
A three-goal lead was not enough for the Janesville Craig boys soccer team Tuesday night.
The Cougars jumped on top with three early goals, but Lake Geneva Badger came back to win the nonconference game 6-4 at Craig.
“The attacking was pretty intense,” Craig coach Garrett McCabe said. “It was a lot of one after another, but we had some mental breakdowns at times that let them back in it.”
Adolfo Pineda and Hozai Ceballos each had a goal and an assist in the opening 21 minutes as Craig jumped out 3-0. But Badger answered late in the first half with three goals in a matter of six minutes.
The Badgers’ Edgar Mendoza scored his second goal of the game at 54:10 to give his team the lead for good in the second half, and Jorge Mayorga, who had an assist earlier, made it 5-3 Badger five minutes later.
“We can attack and we can score, but we’ve got to fix the little things on defense,” McCabe said.
Craig hosts Beloit at 7 p.m. Thursday in a Big Eight Conference opener.
