JANESVILLE—Irish Festival will get a $39,450 boost from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.

The money comes from a Joint Effort Marketing grant to promote the second annual Irish Festival set for Oct. 2-5 in Janesville. The event is expected to generate more than $522,400 for local hotels, restaurants and shops, according to a press release.

The grant has to be used for out-of-county marketing expenses to promote tourism, said Elizabeth Horvath, Irish Fest vice president and Janesville Performing Arts Center executive director.

The department gave a check to Irish Fest for the same amount last year, Horvath said.

“As a community with the highest percentage of Irish residents in Wisconsin, Janesville is the perfect location to celebrate Irish pride and tradition with this family-friendly festival,” Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett said in the release.
