Raptors advance in Rock River League playoffs
MILTON—Sean McCann survived after giving up six runs in the first three innings of a Rock River League elimination game to earn the win in the Milton Raptors’ 9-7 victory over the Madison Black Sox on Sunday.
Milton trailed 4-0 after the top of the second, but RBI singles by T.J. Klawitter and Josh Shere in the bottom half helped the Raptors tie the game.
“Our second inning kind of rejuvenated Sean a little bit,” Milton coach Doug Welch said.
Madison regained the lead in the next inning with two runs before Milton answered immediately to take the lead on an RBI double by Adam Catacutan in the bottom of the third.
McCann, who struck out 11 in the contest, gave up a lone run in the remaining six innings he pitched.
The Raptors rallied in the bottom of the eighth. Dave Sagaitis, who was 3 for 4 in the game, started the inning with a single, followed by a bunt single by Catacutan.
Sagaitis scored from second base on a wild pitch. Madison’s catcher tried to get Sagaitis going to third, but the ball escaped the third baseman and Sagaitis came home.
Meanwhile, the shortstop tried to catch Catacutan running to second on the play but failed, allowing Catacutan to move to third base. Klawitter brought him home with an RBI single for Milton’s ninth run.
“It was a tense, back-and-forth game with a good crowd,” Welch said.
Milton, now 2-1 in the RRL playoffs, has to beat Neosho twice next weekend—the teams play Saturday in Neosho—to advance to the league’s Grand Championship Series against the winner of the Northern Division. A loss would eliminate the Raptors.
