Kathryn Mary (Ford) Marchant, Janesville, WI (1928-2014)

Kathryn Mary (Ford) Marchant, 86, of Janesville, passed away on Aug. 20, 2014, at her home surrounded by love from her family. She was born in Janesville, on Aug. 18, 1928, the daughter of Arthur and Marie (O'Connor) Ford. Kathryn graduated from Janesville High School in 1947, graduated in 1949, from Edgewood College with an associate degree, and then completed a bachelor of science degree in 1951, from UW Madison in Home Economics Education. She married James Marchant on July 24, 1954, at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, Janesville. Kathryn taught in many area schools over the years, often as a favorite substitute teacher. She was artistic in many ways and particularly enjoyed watercolors. She created many paintings, which her friends and family cherish. She and Jim were long-time members of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where all of her children attended grade school. She served as president of the Janesville Catholic Women's Club from 1995 to 1996. She loved nature and was a tour guide at Rotary Botanical Gardens. Kathryn was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and loyal friend. She was proud of her Irish heritage, shown through her signature wit and warmth. She remains the heart of our family, uniting us now and always. She lived her life grounded in her faith, marriage, family, friends, and community.
Kathryn is survived by her six children: Suzanne (William Gollmar) Marchant of Wauwatosa, Michael (Patricia Gallagher) Marchant of Franklin, Mary Ellen Marchant of Madison, Colleen (David Williams) Marchant of Wauwatosa, Monica (Ann-Marie Manning) Marchant of Colorado Springs, CO, and John Marchant of Madison, WI; 12 grandchildren: Anthony, Brian and Ben Klenke, Angela, Natalie and Jared Marchant, Christopher and Kathleen Gollmar, Nick, Katie, and Emma Williams and Jackson Marchant; six great-grandchildren: Alissyn, Joshua, Andrew, Jaelyn, Johnathan and Kristen Klenke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Marchant; her daughter-in-law, Kathy O'Neal; her parents; and her brother, Connor T. Ford.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at 10 a.m., at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH with Msgr. Donn Heiar officiating. A private burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Memorial donations may be made to ECHO, 65 S. Our family thanks the Pastoral Ministers of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the skilled medical doctors and nurses who cared for Mom over the past few years. Finally, we thank Mom's team of caregivers and the staff from Agrace Hospice, who always gave exceptional care, bringing immeasurable comfort to Kathryn and our family.
