High school football: Brodhead/Juda opens with win

Mitchell Johnson rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns to lead Brodhead/Juda to a 44-18 victory over visiting River Valley in a nonconference football opener Friday.

Johnson scored on runs of 1, 3 and 3 yards.

The Cardinals trailed 12-8 after the first quarter but scored twice in the second and pulled away by outscoring River Valley 22-0 after halftime.

Quarterback Brennan Bescup added 61 yards rushing, including a 9-yard touchdown run, and threw a 59-yard scoring pass to Ned Slocum. Griffin Day added 81 yards on six carries.

Brodhead/Juda travels to Evansville/Albany next week.

Milton senior quarterback Tyler Westrick went 8-for-13 for 111 yards and two scoring strikes to Colin Weberpal.

Milton travels to Waunakee next week.

 Delavan-Darien 48, East Troy 10—Senior quarterback Jesse Collins completed all seven of his passing attempts for 203 yards and two touchdowns and added 100 yards on the ground with two touchdowns as the visiting Comets cruised to a nonconference victory.

Fabias Shipman ran wild, carrying 25 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns for Delavan-Darien. His 70-yard scamper in the first quarter got the offense on the right track.E

East Troy’s Charlie Kutschenreuter ran for 128 yards and a touchdown for East Troy.

 Clinton 39, Shoreland 27—Senior quarterback Derek Severson carried 36 times for 318 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and the Cougars scored four fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away for a nonconference victory.

Severson had touchdown runs of 57 and 64 yards, and he threw two touchdown passes to Luke Risse.

The Cougars racked up 461 rushing yards in the victory. They travel to North Boone (Ill.) next week.

 Elkhorn 10, Cudahy 7—Jon Wulff’s 27-yard field goal in the second quarter proved to be the difference for the visiting Elks in their nonconference opener.

Jordan Barr had a three-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but Cudahy answered early in the second before Wulff’s kick.

Elkhorn hosts East Troy on Friday.

 Union Grove 25, Evansville/Albany 6—Jameson Radke caught three passes—all touchdowns—for 95 yards, and the Broncos beat the visiting Blue Devils.

Union Grove ran 52 times for 261 yards but scored all four of its touchdowns on passes, including a 55-yarder by Radke from Zac Melendez to make it 19-0 in the second quarter.

Evansville/Albany lost four fumbles in the game.
