JANESVILLE—Austin Scieszinski announced Friday he would not seek a recount in the Democratic primary election for the 15th State Senate District.

“It is an enormous honor to receive such a large outpouring of support from the community I've called home my entire life,” Scieszinski wrote in a news release.

The vote differential between Scieszinski and Janis Ringhand was 274, about 1.8 percent of the total ballots cast, according to unofficial ballot totals on election night.

A canvass of votes in Rock, Green, Dane, Jefferson and Walworth counties, which make up the 15th District, were due to be reported to the state Government Accountability Board on Friday. The board is scheduled to release official vote totals Monday.

Scieszinski collected 40.5 percent of the vote in Rock County and 50.8 percent of the vote in Janesville, but Ringhand won in Green, Jefferson, Walworth and Dane counties.

Former Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan finished a distant third with about 22 percent of the vote.

Ringhand faces Republican Brian Fitzgerald of Janesville in the Nov. 4 general election.

Scieszinski said he intends to help with his family's real estate investment and management business and to volunteer in the community.

He has no immediate plans to run for public office, he said.

“Perhaps down the road, but right now I'm just focusing on going forward and helping the business and getting involved as much as I can,” he said.
