The Janesville 13U baseball tournament team will have to settle for being one of the six best teams in the country.

Alex Palacios threw a two-hitter Thursday to lead Phoenix, Arizona, to an 8-0 win over Janesville in a Babe Ruth World Series quarterfinal game. Janesville was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.

Defense and hitting had carried Janesville to the World Series, but cost the local team in its last two games at the World Series. Janesville committed five errors Thursday and 10 in losing its last two games..

Phoenix scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and then rode the right arm of Palacios to the win.

Janesville had only two hits, including Jordan Bailey's double in the sixth.

Despite the loss, the 13U team won its fourth state title in five years this season and a second Ohio Valley Regional title in the last three years.
