Janesville loses at World Series but advances to quarterfinals

A magical postseason run nearly came to an end Wednesday night for Janesville's 13U baseball tournament team.

Janesville made an uncharacteristic five errors that led to five unearned runs in a 5-4 loss to host Glen Allen in the final game of pool play at the Babe Ruth World Series.

Janesville finished pool play with a 1-3 record but advanced to the single-elimination tournament as the No. 3 seed based on fewest runs allowed. Janesville plays second-seeded Arizona at 5 p.m. today.

Trailing 5-0 in the sixth inning, Janesville scored four runs to cut the deficit to one. J.J. Brennan had a two-run single to key the rally.

Jordan Bailey started for Janesville and did not allow an earned run in four innings. The left-hander was forced to leave the game in the top of the fifth when he was spiked on the right hand during a collision at first base.

Dan Blomgren and Brennan had two hits each for a Janesville team that won its fourth state title in the last five years and its second Ohio Valley Regional title in three years.
