Four things to know about the annual Rock County Beef Producer's Cookout:

1. The essentials: The cookout is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds, corner of Craig and Randall avenues, Janesville.  The cost is for $15 for a 12-ounce rib-eye steak, $12 for a 6-ounce rib-eye and $6 for an all-beef hot dog. Steaks are cooked to order.

Parking is available on the fairgrounds.

2. The extras:  All meals include baked potato, dinner roll, a beverage and sweet corn donated by Seneca Foods. 4-H members will be selling desserts, so bring your spare change for pie.

You also can buy fresh steaks to take home. Prices are $35 for four 12-ounce steaks and $30 for six 6-ounce steaks.

A band will entertain diners throughout the evening.

3. Why you should go: The money raised is used to support scholarships and educational events for Rock County youth involved in 4-H and FFA, said Ron Austin, Rock County Beef Producers Board president.

4. Where to eat: The grandstands will be open, and seating will be available in the Craig Center and the adjacent, open-air pavilion. There will be no drive-through this year.
