JANESVILLE—A Janesville man accused in connection with the theft of $50,000 worth of jewelry and other items pleaded not guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property Wednesday.

Jose A. Ruiz, 33, of 1236 Highland Ave., Janesville, waived his right to preliminary hearing in Rock County Court. He is accused of receiving stolen property in a burglary in which jewelry and other property valued at more than $50,000 were taken from a Janesville home in March.

Police reported finding goods at Ruiz's home that were taken in Janesville and other burglaries, according to court documents.

Ruiz also faces misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property and marijuana possession. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Ruiz's next court date was not immediately scheduled.
