Justin Higley had a double and a solo home run, and Lou Trivino struck out eight Peoria Chiefs in six innings of work to help the Beloit Snappers win a Midwest League game 6-4 Monday.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Higley led off with a double to right field, then Josh Ludy walked and Branden Cogswell reached on a bunt single. After a popout by Melvin Mercedes, Peoria first baseman Justin Ringo committed an error that allowed Higley and Ludy to score. Cogswell, having advanced to third on the error, scored on a wild pitch to give the Snappers a 3-1 advantage.

Beloit tacked on a pair of insurance runs it would need in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Mercedes and an RBI triple by Matt Chapman.

Peoria scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, but with two on and nobody out, the Snappers traded a run for two outs on a single by Cesar Valera.

Higley and Cogswell combined to throw a runner out at home, and the Snappers caught Cesar Valera between bases behind the out at the plate to complete a much-needed double play. Sam Bragg struck out C.J. McElroy two batters later to seal the win.

The teams meet again at 6:30 p.m. today.
